BIOL 5532
Estuarine Ecology
This
course provides students with a
conceptual and working knowledge of estuarine ecology, including the physical
factors affecting estuarine circulation and mixing, estuarine water and sediment
chemistry, and study of salt marshes, sand shores, mudflats, benthos, plankton,
nekton and the associated food webs. The course is primarily focused on
the ecology and effects of human activities on Texas estuaries, particularly
Galveston Bay. The prerequisite for this course is general ecology (BIOL
4131 or equivalent).
This graduate class is centered around lectures and discussions on the principles of estuarine ecology. At least one field trip is required.
BIOL 5532 is offered during the spring semester every other year.
