Sketch
James C. Helm
received the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from Missouri Valley
College, the Master of Science in
Mathematics from the University of Missouri at Rolla, and the Doctor of Philosophy
degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research from Texas A&M
University. He is the former Chair of the Engineering
Program and is an Associate Professor in the School of Science and Computer
Engineering at the University of Houston Clear Lake. He was the Chair of Systems Engineering and
Assistant Professor of Software Engineering.
He was a fulltime Instructor in Mathematics at the University
of Missouri Rolla, taught Industrial
Engineering and Computer Science courses at Texas A&M,
was a part-time instructor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville,
and was an Adjunct faculty member at the University of Houston Clear Lake for
twenty-three years. His areas of
interest are Systems and Software Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science,
Mathematics, Physics, Simulation, and Modeling.
He has had thirty years of industrial experience as: Senior Principal
Engineer with the Boeing Co. and McDonnell
Douglas at NASA/JSC’s Sunny Carter Test Facility supporting the Space
Shuttle and the International Space Station; a Senior Computer Scientist with
SAIC; Principal investigator of Ada Research and Development with Ford
Aerospace and Communications; Project and Contract Manager for the Space
Shuttle onboard computers HAL/S compiler at Intermetrics;
supported NASA on GEMINI and APOLLO missions while employed with IBM Federal
Systems Division. He is a registered Professional Engineer and holds a lifetime
Secondary Teaching Certificate in the State of Missouri.
