Dr. Feagin is a graduate of Rice University (B.A. in Mathematics and Physics - 1967) and of the University of Texas at Austin (M.A. in Astronomy - 1969, and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering - 1972).
Dr. Feagin was a National Research Council / National Academy of Sciences Resident Research Associate at NASA-Goddard Space Flight Center (1972-73).
Dr. Feagin joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee Space Institute as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and of Aerospace Engineering in 1973. In 1978-79, he served at the University of Tennessee Computing Center in Knoxville as Associate Director for Research and Development. In 1980, he became the Head of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In 1984, he joined the faculty as a Professor of Computer Science in the school of Natural and Applied Science at UHCL. He has been teaching courses on numerical methods, artificial intelligence, expert systems, advanced computer graphics, data structures, numerical simulation, programming languages, research methods, and the capstone experience.
Dr. Feagin's research interests include numerical methods, computer graphics, automated fault detection and isolation, software visualization, real-time expert systems, artificial intelligence, and fuzzy logic. His research in these areas has been sponsored by NASA-GSFC, IBM, U.S. Army-Aberdeen Proving Ground, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and NASA-JSC.
Dr. Feagin serves on a number of committees including the Faculty Senate, the Library, Research, and Computing Committee of the Faculty Senate, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, the Academic Council, and the University Council. He is currently the Chair of the Library, Research, and Computing Committee.
