chairWelcome to the Computer Science program of the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL)!

The CS program has 14 faculty members who are dedicated to high quality and leading edge teaching and research. Our department offers degree programs in Bachelor of Science and Master of Science.

Our programs are based on a balanced curriculum of solid foundation in computer science and practical industrial technologies. The degrees are designed to prepare students to quickly be productive in their computing careers while acquiring the necessary foundation for life long learning in the rapidly changing computing professional landscape.

Our programs offer many benefits. All classes are taught by full-time faculty members or highly qualified adjunct faculty members from the surrounding high technology community, not by student teaching fellows. The class sizes are small and average less than 20 for undergraduate courses and 15 for graduate courses. The faculty members are remarkably quick to adapt learning edge technologies into the courses. Computing resources are excellent and the faculty has been awarded with National Science Foundation's grants to set up various laboratories.

The faculty members are highly student-oriented. They are active in several research areas, including data mining, pattern recognition, Internet computing, real-time systems, artificial intelligence and algorithms, and are committed to incorporate their research into their teaching.

The programs adhere to the leading standard in computer science curricula. Our B.S. program has been accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology since 1988.

UHCL is located right next to the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, surrounded by the high tech complex in the Clear Lake area. As a result, our industrial partners have sponsored research projects, mentored our student projects and hired our students as interns or full-time employees.

Whether you are interested in knowing more about our rich degree programs and vibrant research projects, or just exploring around, we would like to extend our welcome.
