The Computer Science program has a large body of international students, especially in the graduate level. Both the university and the program highly recognize the value of diversity and have diligently cultivated this student body. The CS faculty body is itself very diverse. Eleven of the 14 faculty members come from countries other than the United States.

In the past, the Computer Science has partnered with universities in other countries, such as Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates. Currently, the Computer Science and Computer Information Systems graduate programs have a partnership with Vietnam National University (VNU) for smoothing its graduates to enter the M.Sc. programs. Under the partnership, VNU provides bridging courses to prepare its own graduates, as well as graduates of the Vietnam campus of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, to enter the CS and CIS programs at UHCL.

UHCL has students from about 50 countries. The location of UHCL in the cosmopolitan city of Houston, with more than 80 consulates, offers an unprecedented opportunity where one can evolve toward world citizenship. Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States with a diverse cultural ethnicity. It is easy to find ethical food, communities and cultural activities for many countries. The Vietnamese, Indian and Chinese communities in Houston are especially large.

UHCL supports many student organizations. The Indian Student Association at UHCL is especially active and efficient. It has provided strong assistance to incoming Indian students.

International students interested in our programs may want to visit the Website of UHCL international student services for information. The Inter-cultual Services provide "leadership, advocacy and support which facilitates the development of successful, well-rounded, educated and accepting individuals." International students may also take advantage of the Career Services for assistance on employment service and career preparation, or the writing center for peer tutoring in writing projects.
