UHCL is the largest upper level institution in Texas. As a result, incoming undergraduate students take lower level courses from other higher education institutions, such as the surround community colleges in Houston. There are also many students who have transferred from other universities, both inside and outside of the United States.

The CS program in UHCL offers upper level courses for the last two years of study as well as a limited set of service courses in the lower level. Students are expected to have completed most of the courses in is a list of expected preparation courses before starting their study at UHCL.

For those students transferring from the surrounding community colleges, UHCL has developed a series of articulation agreements (called the 2+2 transfer plans) with the community colleges to serve as guides to recommended coursework to aid students to transfer into programs at UHCL. You may read the 2+2 plan for the CS program for more details. Students with less than 30 university credit hours may consider the Unilink program.
