With the number of unemployed at very high levels it is very difficult to find a job. Increased competition means it is more important than ever to make sure you perform well at interview.

Finding jobs in a recession is difficult because not all jobs are advertsised. If you are going to rely on applying for jobs through the press or internet you could be searching a long time.

If you are serious about finding a job then you need to become your own recruitment consultant. If you are keen to learn how to do this you can find many resources on the internet to help.

Here are a few tips to help you get started.

    1. Use your networks. Speak to friends and family members and ask if they can introduce you to anyone they know who works in your chosen field.

    2. Use a networking site such as Linked in. Search for people you know and see if they can make introductions. Many head hunters use linked in to actively find suitable candidates.

    3. Research companies on the internet, find out who heads up the organisation and contact them direct. For example if you are an accountant, contact the CFO, ask if you can meet as you are interested in their organisation and would like to discuss with them your background and how it could serve the business.

If you need help on interviewing, writing a resume with impact or further help in sourcing roles then careersassistant.com can provide further assistance.
