Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to the Computer Information Systems (CIS) program of the University of Houston - Clear Lake (UHCL)! The CIS program is one of the programs housed in the School of Science and Computer Engineering (SCE), and offers a Master of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems. The BS degree is accredited by the ABET under the Information System curriculum.
The CIS program is based on strong technical knowledge in computer science, especially in areas related to computer information systems such as database systems, Internet development, computer networking, Internet security, and software development. It also emphasizes a broad understanding of other disciplines related to information systems, such as accounting, management, and communication.
The program maintains a balance between theoretical computer science knowledge and practical skills in developing and administering information systems. Besides core computing foundation courses such as data structures, students can take courses exposing them to cutting edge technologies in Internet development, J2EE, XML, .Net, systems administration, network and web security, etc.
To provide hands-on experiences to our students, the CIS faculty have been active in acquiring resources to construct specialized laboratories, including the Windows lab, the Solaris lab, the Systems Administration lab, the computer security lab, and the capstone project labs.
With the solid technical knowledge and practical hands-on training, our alumni from the CIS programs work in various technical and management positions related to the development, operation, and/or management of computer information systems.
More information about the CIS program can be found in the About Us page. Please feel free to browse other CIS web pages to learn more about the degree programs, the courses, and other information. If you have any questions or comments about the web site, please contact the current CIS chairperson (Dr. Andrew Yang).
