Admission in SCE

The School of Science And Computer Engineering (SCE) at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, offers a large amount of degree seeking programs. the programs have their respective admission requirements plus the University and SCE requirements. Please visit their pages to view them:

More than 700 undergraduate students and over 550 graduate students are seeking degrees offered by SCE. The students represent a diverse mix of populations including those fresh from two years of community college, those who work full-time and have families or those desiring to change careers or advance in their current careers.

The school also serves a large contingent of international students. SCE students enjoy many benefits resulting from the active research activities conducted by the faculty of the school. A variety of opportunities for research participation are available to SCE students.


General Admission Requirements

Undergraduate

Undergraduate applicants may be accepted for admission upon satisfying the following requirements. All credits must be earned from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

  • Earned associate's degree, OR
    at least 54 semester hours with grades of "C" or better, OR
    at least 30 semester hours with grades of "C" or better and be concurrently enrolled at another institution until admission requirements above have been met. Developmental hours and UHCL hours may not be used to meet the 54 hour requirement for admission.
  • Passing scores on all parts of the Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP) examination or be TASP exempt (not required for post-baccalaureate students).
  • Completion of three (3) hours of college algebra or a higher mathematics course not required of transient "visiting" students or post-Baccalaureate students).
  • Evidence of eligibility to return to last institution attended.


Graduate

An applicant who has earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and who is eligible to return to the last institution attended may be accepted as a graduate student. Prospective students wishing to pursue a master's program should refer to the catalog description of specific programs for other admission requirements.
